Viber messaging enables you to send rich, personalized communications directly into the Viber inboxes of your supporters. It offers a cost-effective, content-rich alternative to SMS, particularly in regions where Viber usage is high (e.g.: Southern Europe, certain parts of Asia).

Key advantages include:

  • High Engagement: Viber messages land in the same inbox as personal conversations, resulting in strong open and response rates.

  • Rich Media Support: Send messages that include images, buttons, and longer-form text for more effective storytelling and conversions.

  • Flexible Format: higher character limit gives you the freedom to send detailed updates, announcements, or calls-to-action.

💡 Note: Viber also charges a per-message traffic cost, though typically lower than WhatsApp and SMS. Rates may vary by destination country.

Configuration

To enable Viber messaging for your CDP account:

  1. Contact Customer Success:
    Reach out via the in-app chatbot to begin setup. The Customer Success team will assist with onboarding.

  2. Sender Registration:
    Data Talks will initiate your sender registration with Viber. Some additional information and documents might be requested by your CSM during the registration process.

  3. Regional Considerations:
    In some regions the sender registration may require 2–3 weeks due to regulatory requirements. Your CSM will guide you through the process.


Usage

Unlike WhatsApp, Viber does not require template pre-approval before sending campaigns. You can create and send messages directly within the campaign builder.

Sending a Viber Campaign

The process is similar to SMS and WhatsApp, but without the template step:

  • Campaign Setup:

    • Enter campaign name, description, and label

    • Choose target audience by selecting include/exclude segments and applying communication preferences

  • Compose the Message:

    • Write your message in the free text editor, flexibly combining text, images and videos, and call-to-action buttons.

  • Preview and Launch:

    • Preview how the message will appear in Viber

    • Schedule the campaign or send it immediately

    • Confirm and launch the campaign

  • Analytics and Reporting:

    • After sending, view results in the Analyze tab

    • Monitor delivery status, open rates, and clicks

    • Additionally, your Viber campaigns are also included in the Campaign Monetary out-of-box dashboard, where you can follow-up on the revenue generated from your Viber (and other) campaigns.

Tips & Tricks

  • 💬 No template approval needed: You can move faster with Viber campaigns—ideal for time-sensitive updates or last-minute changes.

  • 📣 Optimize for mobile: Use concise, visually engaging messages to make the most of limited screen space.

  • 🌍 Know your audience: Viber is widely used in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and select other regions. Ensure your audience aligns with Viber usage. A good idea can be to ask your supporters about their messaging platform preferences using the CDP's Preference Center.

  • 🔗 Use buttons wisely: Direct users to preference centers, ticket pages, or personalized content with actionable CTAs.

  • 🧪 Test before scaling: Run test campaigns with smaller audiences to measure performance and tweak messaging.

  • ⚠️ Message cost still applies: Although cheaper than SMS and WhatsApp, Viber messages still generate per-send costs—target wisely.
