Triggered Actions: Automate Engagement Effortlessly

Triggered Actions allow you to automate your marketing communication flows—no complex setup, no code, and no hassle.

What Triggered Actions are and how you can configure them?

Triggered Actions are automatic messages that are sent the moment someone enters a segment. They are configured in the segment itself, under More Options / Trigger actions. It’s your “set it and forget it” tool for reacting to customer behavior or profile changes in real-time.

  1. Add Action, e.g.: "Add Drag&Drop Email builder"

  2. Configure campaign details: similarly to creating an email campaign, you need to configure your campaign message. The only difference is that the target audience is already defined from the segment itself to which the Triggered Action will be assigned

  3. Save as draft or set Triggered Action live: if the "Is this Email Ready to be sent?" toggle is set to "No" and you save it, the Triggered Action will be saved as a draft. If the toggle is set to "Yes" and you save the changes and the segment itself, the Triggered Action will become active.

You can later on Toggle off the Triggered Action temporarily or permanently while keeping the segment running as well.

Example use cases:

  • 🎂 Birthday greetings
Automatically send an email to anyone entering the “Birthday Today” segment.

  • 🙌 Welcome sequences
Greet new members with a series of messages right after signup.

  • 🎟️ Follow-up after a ticket purchase
Say thank you, send reminders, or recommend related events.

💡 Important to note: in cases of targeting ever changing profile bases with a triggered message, such as people with birthday "today", the segment needs to specify the time attribute as well, e.g.: for a birthday campaign you need to make sure that the people who were part of the segment yesterday, are removed today at the segment recalculation, so they do not get the messages twice.

🧩 Build Simple Sequences

Triggered Actions also let you chain multiple steps together without needing a complicated workflow builder.

You can:

  1. Send an email immediately

  2. Wait a few days

  3. Send a second email

  4. Follow up with an SMS

It’s perfect for straightforward flows like onboarding journeys, confirmation emails, or re-engagement messages. While not a full marketing automation suite, it covers a wide range of common needs effectively and with minimal setup.

✉️ Transactional Messages: For the Critical Touchpoints

In addition to triggered actions (marketing messages), the CDP also supports Transactional Messages — messages that are sent in real time based on specific events.

These are typically system-critical communications, such as:

  • Double opt-in confirmations

  • 🛒 Order confirmations

  • 📄 E-ticket or invoice delivery

Unlike triggered actions, which are segment-based, transactional messages are immediate and tied directly to a user action or API event. The configuration of a Triggered Action can be done by CDP users, while configuring a Transactional Message requires the involvement of a Customer Success Manager.

Together, Triggered Actions and Transactional Messages give you both flexibility and reliability in your communication setup—ensuring the right message reaches the right person at the right time.
